Dr Tim Metcalf
Welcome to my home page. Here you can sample some of my published poems; see my publications; get in touch; and see some nice pictures taken at our Brogo property. I hope you can find time one day to listen to some of the recordings on the Poets of the Bega Valley Shire Audio Project My most recent publication is The Moon The Bone: Selected Poems 1986-2022 (2023). This book was Winner of the ACT Literary Awards (Poetry) in 2024. Citation: A most magnificent collection of works that covers the human emotional experience beautifully.
In 2023 I wrote the introduction for award winning novelist and poet Ian McFarlane, for his Selected Poems entitled Wintersong I am the editor of Anna Buck's excellent Selected Poems entitled Maybe Street My last chapbook collection was Spacewalk (2021) Numbugga Dumb Bugger was published in 2019. This entertaining poetry collection brings traditional Australian bush poetry into the 21st century. Written as kind of gift to the Bega Valley Shire, where I lived for 26 years. The joy of Australian comical bush poetry is well illustrated by the sales of this book, soon to require reprinting Before that (2018)was an epic poem of Australia: The Underwritten Plain My fifth book was The Solution to Us. You can sample the poetry and even watch the eccentric 2008 launch here. The Solution to Us was shortlisted for the ACT Writing and Publishing Awards (Poetry) for 2009. My fourth book Verbal Medicine: Twenty-One Contemporary Clinician-Poets of Australia and New Zealand was the subject of a Radio National broadcast in March 2008. Verbal Medicine was Winner of the ACT Writing and Publishing Awards (Poetry) for 2007.
